January Open Mic Poetry: Featured Reader

This month we welcome Hannah Larrabee as our featured reader.

Hannah Larrabee received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of New Hampshire. Her poetry chapbook Virgo was published by Finishing Line Press in March of 2009, and was nominated for a Massachusetts Book Award and a Pen New England Literary Award.  Her work has been published in Scarab Literary Magazine, Tidal Basin Review, Parnassus, Conceit Magazine, among others. She lives in Massachusetts, and has taught writing and literature at the New Hampshire Institute of Art and Northern Essex Community College.

December Open Mic Poetry: Featured Reader

Where: Crackskull’s of course!

When: Thursday, 12/22 from 7-9pm

The feature for our December installment of poetry open mic is Eric Crapo. Eric has taught poetry, playwriting and erotica at Chester College of New England, where he is also director of the college’s Wadleigh Library and advisor of the Crayon Box, the campus’ gay-straight alliance.  In addition to poetry & drama, Eric has been known to dabble in photography and speculative fiction.  He is chief editor of Collective Fallout magazine, and his work has appeared in Sensations MagazineVerse,BUTTOrigami CondomMoonshot, and Organs of Vision and Speech (OVS).

December Artist: Cori Caputo

This month we have one of my favorite local artists up on our wall, Cori Caputo.  Cori is an amazingly talented watercolorist, and I’m so excited to have her back.  The series she is showing this month is called Maidens of Pharos and will be up until January.  We also have a selection of her prints and greeting cards, which make great gifts!

November Open Mic Poetry: Featured Reader

Our Open Mic Poetry night fell on Thanksgiving this month, so we are hosting it the following evening, Friday, November 25th from 7:00-9:00.  Hope to see you there!

Our featured reader this month is Ivy Page.

Ivy Page’s first book of poems, Any Other Branch will be published in 2012, and her second, Elemental, in 2014, both by Salmon Poetry of Ireland. She has poems published, or forthcoming in over three dozen journals, nationally. A graduate of the New England College MFA program, Page is the editor and founder of Organs of Vision and Speech Magazine, teaches writing at colleges throughout New Hampshire, and runs two reading series.

Winter Farmers Market

Have you been to the Newmarket Farmers Market yet?  Until April, Carpenter’s Olde English Greenhouse at 220 South Main Street in Newmarket will be hosting the indoor market on the third Saturday of every month from 9:00am to 1:00pm.  After April, the normal Newmarket Farmers Market schedule will resume, with it being held every Saturday at Carpenter’s Greenhouse from 9:00am-1:00pm.  Local food, live music, friendly faces, what else could you ask for?

Live Performance: Paul Amirault

We are excited to be hosting Paul Amirault, this Friday, November 18th, from 7pm-9pm. Paul is a local musician, songwriter and composer with over 40 years experience and lives here in Newmarket. This month’s featured reader is Daniel Singer. Daniel lives in Colorado where he edits φreHABIT Press and teaches writing, poetry, and compositional philosophy. His poems and reviews have most recently appeared or are forthcoming in Contemporary American Voices, Horse Less Review and Reconfigurations: A Journal of Poetics and Poetry. He is currently completing a Ph.D. at the University of Denver and serves on the board of directors at Switchback Books.

September Open Mic Poetry: Featured Readers

For our inaugural Open Mic Poetry night on September 22nd, from 7pm-9pm, we have TWO featured readers, Victor D Infante and Lea C. Deschenes.

Victor D. Infante is the editor of the online literary journal, Radius: Poetry From the Center to the Edge, and the author of City of Insomnia, a poetry collection from Write Bloody Publishing. His poems and stories have been published in numerous periodicals, including PearlChiron ReviewThe Nervous BreakdownSpillwayWord Riot and Dark Horizons. He lives with his wife, the poet Lea Deschenes, and his pet ferret, Kismet, in a triple-decker apartment in Worcester, and has serious opinions about reality TV cooking competitions.

Lea C. Deschenes resides in Worcester, MA and holds an MFA in Poetry from New England College. Her poetry has appeared online, on stage and in print. A former member of four National Poetry Slam teams and a coach to two more, she also dusts off her BA in Theater to perform. She has received a Jacob Knight Award, been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes and represented Worcester in the 2005 Individual World Poetry Slam. She is the author of thirteen chapbooks. Her first full-length collection The Constant Velocity of Trains is available through Write Bloody Publishing.
